Bob Wallbank - Playwright

Wild Man
Steve Bryant and Nick Davies in Wild Man
I have been writing stage plays for many years, performed at Theatr Hafren and locally in Wales and the Borders, most recently Something that Happened Just South of Solitude (about the writing and development of Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men) and Grey Seal Cut Stone (about the building of a jetty during the Irish Famine) for Theatr Powys (a TIE and Community Touring Company); Wild Man (based on the Medieval Irish romance of Suibne Geilt) and Goose (a play with a strong ecological theme based on the life cycle of a goose) for Scratch Theatre (an amateur touring company); and Tir Na n’Og (based on the legend of Bran’s sea trip to the Isles of Youth, and the problems of perpetual life) which was an Arts Council funded community cabaret piece, written with music by Ian Morgan-Williams for an amateur tour.

I am at present (June 2009) working on an opera libretto, also for Ian Morgan-Williams concerning the demise of Norse Greenland in the Middle Ages, where the Norse chose destruction, rather than compromise their culture; a play for Scratch Theatre about Hares; and a play set in 1979 concerning a boy’s quest for the Nanteos Cup (a scam holy grail in an Aberystwyth mansion), set against the background of the Meibion Glyndwr firebombings.

Most of my plays have a strong ecological thread.

All my plays are copyright, but are available for performance on application to me (see below for contacts).
